Nature's Little Delicacies

Now that we have a garden that is growing a zucchini plant, we are able to enjoy one of nature's little delicacies - Zucchini Flowers!

One night for dinner recently, Zach made fried zucchini flowers.  He used his own recipe - but it was a similar recipe to Giada's Cheese Filled Zucchini Flowers here.

I have never had zucchini flowers before - and they are so delicious and so delicate.  I was a little hesitant trying them at first, but now - I am so happy I tried them - they were just delicious!!!  If you get the chance to try something new like this - definitely worth it!  Have you ever had zucchini flowers before???

Zach separating the flowers prior to them being stuffed and fried - how cool!
Yeah for trying something new!

Raspberries...Raspberries...and even more Raspberries

You guys!

This no joke - every night for the past two weeks - I have been picking bowls full of raspberries from our back yard!  Does anyone have any recommendations for recipes for raspberries??? We put them on top of salads and ice cream for dessert.  We took them and soaked them in strawberry wine and topped them on ice cream as well!  I would love any suggestions you guys have!

Just take a look at how big and beautiful these raspberries are!
First day I picked raspberries and our arugula salad with goat cheese, almonds, and raspberries with a balsamic dressing!
Yeah for Raspberries!

Mmmm...Bacon

Hey Guys!

Life lately has been so busy!!!

Where has this summer gone - already half way through July!!!

We have been busy - but some posts coming up will tell everyone what we have been up to!

So Zachary got me a subscription to Food & Wine magazine as a surprise for our move - I know he is so good to me :)  We like Food & Wine because of Top Chef!  I love perusing through their website finding easier gourmet meals to make - like the black bean soup I posted about here.

With the subscription - came the 2013 Food & Wine cookbook!  I have made a recipe from one of the magazines I got - and from the cookbook!  Our friends the Evans' visited us this past Saturday and I made Tom's Sweet and Tangy Corn Salad as a side/topping for our grilled shrimp tacos.  It was in the most recent copy of Food & Wine magazine.  I made some changes to it - instead of blanching the corn and leeks - I grilled the corn and sauteed the leeks.  For the dressing, I did not have white wine vinegar - so I used half regular white vinegar and half white balsamic vinegar.

But my easiest deliciousy (I know that is not word) recipe I have found is CANDY BACON...yes...CANDY BACON.  I love Bacon - I love love love bacon - I wrote about it back around Christmas time here. I made this recipe first when Zach's parents came and visited - and then again this past weekend when Katie, Mark and Nina were visiting - such a hit!!

So the recipe for Candy Bacon ----- Preheat the oven to 400 deg.  Take some foil and line a baking sheet.  Take a package of thick sliced bacon (this recipe is for 20 pieces).  Place the bacon on the foil-lined baking sheet.  Mix 1/2 cup of light brown sugar and a 1 1/2 teaspoons of chili powder in a bowl.  Take a brush and coat the top of the bacon with the brown sugar mixture.  Put in the oven for 20-25 minutes (I check it always halfway through), and then take the bacon out of the oven.  Remove the bacon from the baking sheet and place on a wire cooling rack that has foil under it to cool.  Serve after cooling completely.
***I break up the bacon into pieces after - so they aren't strips - but man oh man is it good!!!!

Enjoy because this is a great app to service for a party!!!

SOOOO GOOD!
Yeah for new recipes!

Strawberry Fest 2013!

Strawberry Fest has come and gone, and I am already thinking about next year's fest!!!  I miss it already!

This year - it wasn't just the Kaminski girls that came - the guys came too (except for my dad)!!!  We started off the day at Morton's in Cedarburg for some lunch and an amazing Bloody Mary!  There was an old school blue grass band that played even with a washboard!  After that we did some shopping, wine tasting, more eating, and some beer tasting too!

If you want to see what we did last here, view this blog post here!

Way to go to Zach and Ted for being troopers through their first Strawberry Fests!  See the fun pictures below!

Side note: One item I purchased at the Strawberry Fest I absolutely love and CANNOT wait until I can use it come Thanksgiving!  Norah Fleming platters are so pretty and unique I absolutely love them!  And now I cannot wait to collect the minis you can add tot he platters!  I purchased the turkey one here because I thought it would be great for my favorite time of the year - FALL :) I think these are great gift ideas and are just wonderful for parties!!!

Yeah for Strawberries!

Life Lately...

Life lately has been so busy!!   Is it just me or has this summer flown by, and it is already July!!??? Where has the time gone!!!

We have been busy with family and friends and summer activities that will all be posted about soon!

One activity that we have loved to do is the farmer's markets!  Last year I wrote about the Farmer's Markets in Chicago here.  They are just great - but...the farmer's markets here are unreal!!!  We have found some really great things!  No more eggs at the store, we now get farm fresh eggs!  We also have gotten some morel mushrooms (hard to find and a delicacy!), bok choy, kale, and other items including rib-eyes!

The markets are on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  Wednesday's market is really really really big!!!  It's off of Broadway in downtown Green Bay.  I haven't been able to explore that one as much yet - but the Saturday one we have!  The Saturday market is located off of Monroe St. in Downtown Green Bay.  It's a little smaller but still awesome - and by smaller I mean not on an entire street!

Take a look at the fabulous finds we have gotten!

ALL DELICIOUS!!!
Morel mushrooms were something that Zachary introduced me to.  They taste like pure butter and are extremely hard to find!  If you see them at a market - you should get them!  You won't find them at most places!  Click here for some information on how to clean/cut/cook the morel mushrooms.

I love the farmer's markets!  If you have one near you - utilize it!  I promise you will enjoy!

Yeah for markets!
